March 28, 2017 Juan Fausd

Umbraco is an open source content management platform built on Microsoft .Net Framework and it utilizes ASP.NET and Microsoft SQL Server. Umbraco provides a complete solution for building websites, intranets, online stores and ecommerce sites.

Umbraco provides a simple translation workflow to manage multilingual content. In this blog, I will introduce the GPI Translation Services Connector for Umbraco and how to export the content for translation and import it back again after the translations are done using the connector.

GPI Translation Services Connector for Umbraco

GPI's Translation Services Connector for Umbraco enables users of Umbraco-based websites to launch and manage multi-language websites. The connector streamlines content exports and imports allowing for the initiation of web content translation workflows with a single click.

By using this connector, you can simply submit any number of pages to be translated into any language.

Exporting and Importing Content for Translation

Once the connector is installed you will be able to begin sending content for translation. From the content section, you can select the page(s) that you want to have translated. You can select any page and open its action list where you will find a new item added called Send to GPI as shown below:

After clicking Send To GPI, a request a quote panel will appear.

Complete the translation information by selecting the source and target languages. Check the include subpages option if you want to select multiple pages at one time. If you have comments, you can write them in the comment box and then click ok.

Once you click ok, a request for quote will be sent to GPI with the selected pages for translation.

To access the information you sent for translation, go to the connector dashboard from the left side menu of the GPI Connector. There you can see the status of each quote and you can also click the status report button to get a full report about your quote.

Once translations are complete, the content can be imported by clicking the Import button beside the translation package.
